RSA Winding Down
RSA seems to be winding down. The final sessions are going on right now and the final keynotes will soon follow. I will be attending General Colin Powell’s Keynote but I think I will skip the rest.
All has gone well since I have been here. As you know from the RSA On The Run podcast I started off having a good time and I can say that continued through to the end. I fully intended on continuing the On The Run theme but for some reason I am no longer able to record. I am not sure if this is an issue with my headset, software, or the end-user. Either way the next podcast will have to wait until I have returned home. I spent too much time trying to troubleshoot the issue already.
I definite have some interesting content intended for the near future so stay tuned to this horribly designed website. Despite Martin’s innocuous statement I still enjoyed meeting him out here. Hopefully he’ll have his new site up and running soon so that he can show me how it is really done.
That said, Martin is absolutely correct. If you are a blogger and you want to attend a conference you should contact their Public Relations (PR) department and apply for a press pass. Many vendors and conference administrators have realized the important role the blog sphere is beginning to play in the information dissemination space. People are reading or listening to this medium and using the information they gather to help form their opinions. That said, you will want to establish your presence as a blogger to ensure that you are not denied access. Consistent time between posts, relevant subject content, and cross blog interaction (links from other similar subject bloggers) will probably begin to be investigated should the PR departments become inundated with requests for these credentials.
I have to give a big shout out to Rich Mogull as well. Although I would have met many of the other security bloggers in passing while they were working (or getting worked) I would not have had the opportunity to interact with them as I did at the Security Bloggers meetup. Actually having a conversation with the likes of Brian Krebs, Bruce Schneier, Mike Rothman, and all of the others was definitely (as others have mentioned) the highlight of the conference. Thank you for initiating the meetup, thank you to Martin for finishing up, and thank you to all who attended. I am looking forward to future interactions on the web and in person.
Also, on a side note, if you attended the conference but did not give them your CISSP information during the registration you need to contact the RSA registration staff. They will add your CISSP number to your profile and you will be automatically credited for the sessions that you attended.
Go forth and do good things,
Cutaway
